City rejects have nothing to prove to former teams

Absa Premiership log leaders Cape Town City have many players who were not given a chance at the big clubs but Lehlohonolo Majoro has insisted that their motivation is not to prove a point to anyone.

Over three seasons, Majoro made 70 appearances for Orlando Pirates but mostly as a substitute and scored 15 goals before joining City at the start of this season.

"Most of the players here have been with big teams and it's just unfortunate that we never got enough chance to express ourselves. I'm referring to the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, Lebo Manyama, Tshepo Gumede and Robyn Johannes. Now they are given the freedom," Majoro told Sowetan after his side's 3-2 win over his other former side, Kaizer Chiefs, in midweek.

"The mistake that people make is thinking that we are here to prove a point, but that's not the case," he stated.

Instead, Majoro has attributed their good season to a squad that is "united" under coach Eric Tinkler.

"If you are there [in the dressing room] before the game you can see that this is a united team and that makes us tick," said the 30-year-old .
