OPINION: Lesson from Tsotsobe after 8-year corruption ban

Lonwabo Tsotsobe has truly disappointed us. The cricketer was this week given an eight-year ban from the sport for his role in a 2015 match-fixing saga that had already sunk seven of his mates.

It is sad that Tsotsobe's career, which promised so much when he was the leading ODI bowler in the world five years ago, has to come to this conclusion.

SA cricketer Lonwabo Tsotsobe slapped with 8-year ban for corruptionThe fixing net snagged another big fish on Tuesday when Lonwabo Tsotsobe was banned for eight years after admitting his guilt.

But corruption in sport has to be rooted out, and just because one was a popular player should not shield them from tough action. We hope Tsotsobe's fall from grace will serve as a lesson to young and upcoming cricketers that any form of corruption will not be tolerated.
