Burkina Faso include stars that reached 2013 Afcon final in squad for World Cup qualifier against Bafana

Bloemfontein Celtic’s Robert Sankara and fellow defender Issouf Paro from National First Division club Santos were both named by Burkina Faso in their 24-man squad to take on South Africa in next month’s World Cup qualifier in Ouagadougou.

Former Chippa United striker Aristide Bance‚ now playing in Latvia‚ and the ex-Free State Stars goalkeeper Daouda Diakite were also named in a squad that shows just a single change from that called up for the 2-1 win over Botswana at the start of September that qualified the Burkinabe for next year’s African Nations Cup final.

All but one of the players are foreign-based and the squad includes many of their key players who helped Burkina to reach the final of the Nations Cup in Johannesburg some three years ago.

Jonathan Pitroipa‚ who was named player of the tournament at the 2013 finals in South Africa‚ is joined by captain Charles Kabore and Traore brothers Alain and Bertrand.

Bertrand Traore was last month loaned by Chelsea to Ajax Amsterdam where he is keeping Thulani Serero out of the first team squad.

Burkina Faso and South Africa meet in the Burkinabe capital on Saturday‚ October 8 at the start of the Group D.
