Cavin targets Champions League star

It's going to take a while, but Cavin Johnson has big dreams of getting the CAF Champions League winners' star on top of the Platinum Stars badge.

A chance to finish second in the Absa Premiership and play in the continental club competition next year may have faded now after third-placed Stars were beaten 2-0 by SuperSport United on Sunday.

However, there is still a chance to compete in the Confederation Cup, a less fancied competition, if they finish in the position they are in at the moment. "It's about building this team to get a star. It's my own personal thing. If you get the star, then you know we have done well. Is it the third spot for the Confederation Cup? If so, then we will push for it and play in it," he said.

To finish in third place, Stars really have to perform much better than they did against United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. They struggled to deal with crosses and were poor in front of goal.

Dikwena went into the game with six straight victories at home and as many clean sheets.

Johnson had a serious go at his players for making "under-9" errors in their defeat to Matsatsantsa.

"Stuart Baxter's teams always have good set-pieces and they play on the counter attack. We planned for that, but when you get caught on the backfoot that's under-9 errors. We are upset because we lost a game at home," said Johnson.
