Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says Wednesday night's Premier Soccer League match against Free State Stars at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney is a crucial one for his side as they aim for a morale-boosting three wins in a row.

“This is a crucial match for us‚” Komphela said. “It is not going to be easy. We hope things have turned in our favour after the encouraging wins in our last two matches.”

Chiefs meet Stars at 7.30pm on the back of their first two wins of the season‚ 1-0 in a tricky game against promoted Highlands Park in Tembisa and then 2-0 against Maritzburg United at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Those wins were not entirely convincing in terms of Amakhosi's performance and Komphela knows what it can do for his side should they register a third vistory against the team the Stars side he has regularly coached to top eight success in the past.

“I worked at Free State Stars and I know them. They love winning and one thing I know is that they don’t want to be seen at the bottom of the table‚” Komphela said.

Stars sacked French coach Denis Lavagne after just three matches - a draw and two defeats. They drew again against SuperSport United at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Saturday under caretaker-coach Themba Sithole.

“We have to be alert because they are going through changes in their technical team‚" Komphela said.

“With Themba Sithole in charge it is not going to be easy for us. I had an opportunity to work with some of the players there - they have good qualities and attributes to give us a tough match.”

Wednesday's PSL fixtures (all 7.30pm):
Golden Arrows v SuperSport United (Princess Magogo Stadium)
Free State Stars v Kaizer Chiefs (James Motlatsi Stadium)
Baroka FC v Chippa United (Peter Mokaba Stadium)
