New Bidvest Wits signing Sifiso Myeni will play on the wing even though he has previously stated that he enjoys a central role behind the strikers.

This is according to Wits coach Gavin Hunt, who has urged the former Orlando Pirates player to prove his worth and make an immediate impact on his return to the Clever Boys.

The man who left Wits in 2011 to join the Buccaneers has signed a three-year deal after Pirates deemed him surplus to requirements.

Myeni did not quite live up to expectations at Pirates, but some of the injuries he sustained also made it difficult for him to progress. He made 29 appearances domestically last season, recording five goals and four assists.

"He became available to us and we needed another winger, so we made the signing. I see him more as a winger but times change and we will see how things go" said Hunt, who has built a solid team which, on paper, looks good enough to clinch the championship.

"Hopefully, he makes an impact, that's why we signed him in the first place. I think he has a lot to prove and this is a great opportunity for him [to revive his career]. He must make it work."

Ajax Cape Town were also interested in signing the 28-year-old as coach Roger de Sa eyed a reunion with the player, but the midfielder had a difficulty relocating to the Mother City.

Myeni's agent Mike Makaab said yesterday: "I am thrilled that he is back home. He had a fantastic time at Pirates and I would like to thank the chairman Irvin Khoza for collaborating and processing the transfer. A number of clubs were interested and Ajax was one of them."
