Cape Town City have confirmed the capture of Australian midfielder Matt Sim‚ who has completed a successful trial with coach Eric Tinkler’s side.
The 28-year-old will bring overseas know-how and versatility to the new Premier Soccer League franchise‚ according to club owner John Comitis.
"The club was looking for a versatile and experienced player‚ that would be able to play numerous positions and bring a high level of professionalism‚” Comitis said.
“That is why we have gone beyond the borders of Africa to bring Matt Sim‚ who has a great deal of experience in the Australian league and definitely fits the bill."
Sim did‚ in fact‚ only make 12 starts in three seasons in the A-League with Central Coast and most recently Western Sydney Wanderers‚ the side he left at the end of the last campaign after just a single substitute appearance.
He does have experience of playing in the Asian Champions League though.
He will also hope to do better than compatriot Isaka Cernak‚ who joined SuperSport United at the start of last season‚ but managed just five starts and none after January.
Cape Town City‚ who purchased the top-flight franchise of Mpumalanga Black Aces last month‚ are building towards the new season under Tinkler.
They now have 15 players‚ with a number more on trial‚ including former Pirates defender Robyn Johannes and ex-junior national team defender Ebrahim Seedat.
The club are also expected to sign Pirates defender Tshepo Gumede‚ and also expecting trialists from Spain.
