Chiefs takes it slow on key players

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is delighted with his side's preparations ahead of 2016/17 season.

Chiefs, who finished last season in fifth place and with no trophies in the cabinet, will be working tirelessly after bring in new players to help launch a serious challenge for the Absa Premiership title.

The Soweto giant have recently reinforced their squad with eight new signings Sibusiso Khumalo (jersey number 13), Enocent Mkhabela (6), the Zimbabwean duo of Edmore Chirambadare (11), Michelle Katsvairo (8), Zambian Lewis Macha (19), Keagan Buchanan (10), Ramahlwe Mphahlele (2) and Emmanuel Letlotlo (21).

Komphela is adamant that Carling Black Champions Cup will give his side an opportunity to measure level of readiness before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) kickoff next month.

The highly anticipated Black Label Cup pre-season friendly will kick-off at 15:30 at the iconic FNB Stadium, on Saturday, 30 July.

"We returned from the off-season a fortnight ago," Komphela told Chiefs official website.

"We started pre-season with the routine testing and medicals. The work to be ready for the new season has begun.

Komphela mentioned that players who did not enjoy a full off-season break due to CAF commitments were give few days off.

"We have to take it slow with players like Itumeleng Khune, Erick Mathoho and Ramahlwe Mphahlele, who were in action for Bafana Bafana," he said.

The coach adds that Willard Katsande also got a few more days to rest, as he was in full action with the Zimbabwean national team.
