Comitis scrambles to put together deals for sponsors and players for new Cape club

The new Cape Town club – who many are tipping to be called Cape Town City in a bid to revive old glories – will be launched next week as the new owner John Comitis works overtime to put together deals for sponsors and players in double quick time after buying the franchise from Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The team will begin their pre-season preparations next Thursday June 30 are setting up their base nearby the Cape Town World Cup Stadium‚ where they will be playing their matches.

Comitis‚ formerly the owner of Cape Town Spurs and then co-chairman of Ajax Cape Town‚ is scrambling to put together a squad and has been in touch with most of the other PSL clubs in search of players.

“A lot of things you take for granted when you have a club‚ you know‚ have to be put together to start from scratch. Even getting a kettle for the guys in the office.

“I’ve had to employ 14 people just to get the club up and running and you can’t just appoint people off the (street). There have to be interviews. So you can understand all the work‚” he said on Wednesday.

The club will be formally launched next Wednesday June 29 – at a function at the Cape Town Stadium – which Comitis confirms will be the club’s base.

His coaching staff are in place but the squad is still a work in progress.

Eric Tinkler has been named coach‚ Calvin Marlin is his assistant and Craig Rosslee has been appointed as the technical director of the club.

Tinkler is still in Portugal on holiday and only due to arrive on the eve of his first training session.
