Former Bafana Bafana mentor Ted Dumitru believes that Kaizer Chiefs need specific type of players with superior qualities, following the club’s early exit from Caf Champions League on Sunday.

Dumitru says the strengths of local football both at the club and national level aren’t yet developed into a winning philosophy, Chiefs is no exception.

The Soweto giant has failed to reach the second round of the Champions League, after having lost 1-0 at home last week.

Last year‚ Amakhosi lost 3-0 on aggregate to Moroccan club Raja Casablanca in the first round.

Dumitru told Sowetan LIVE that :"Chiefs need a specific type of player with superior qualities to match those ever higher expectations – but unfortunately that ‘special’ kind of players isn’t easily available due to poor talent development."

Chiefs have recently been criticized by their supporters for not buying quality players as compared to their League rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

"Signing, off -loading players and coaches has to be aligned with the club playing philosophy. Otherwise there will be clashes of different individual mentalities and background.

"The club has to urgently reinforce the squad with young players. The long-term solution is to establish a high performance talent development program natural talent and advanced training methodologies are available," the 76-year-old said.

On Tuesday‚ Komphela’s side lost 1-0 at their FNB Stadium home base against the league’s relegation threatened team‚ Jomo Cosmos.
