Pitso Mosimane has faced Allan Freese three times in past cup encounters and he's come off second-best on all those occasions.

Mosimane said yesterday he hoped it would be fourth time lucky when his side Mamelodi Sundowns travel to Tembisa's Makhulong Stadium to face Freese's Highlands Park in a Nedbank Cup round of 32 match on Sunday.

"You know the story of the FA Cup, neh? The FA Cup has surprises. The Nedbank Cup has given us names like Baroka.

"I think you know what happened and there have been names like Maluti. It has given us names like Black Leopards, so we can never take it for granted that Highlands Park is a win for us," Mosimane said.

Then second division side Baroka stunned Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in 2011, while another second division side, Maluti FET College, thumped Orlando Pirates 4-1 in 2013.

Mosimane and Freese resume their cup battle in this clash having previously met on a few occasions.

Freese's Platinum Stars beat Sundowns 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout in 2013. Freese's charges were also 2-1 victors over Mosimane's boys when they met in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 in 2014.

And in the same year, Freese guided Dikwena to a 1-0 win over the Brazilians in the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout.

Mosimane reacted: "Freese is very difficult. All the time I played him in the cups, he's won against us. He's a difficult coach, he is a very good coach, he likes his team to have a structure and they will fight. We have to earn it."

For his part, Freese says he's not focused on the past but on this clash.

"The past is the past. This is a big game for the club, the players and the spectators. We are well prepared for Sundowns.

"Sundowns have quality players and a quality coach, but we have to look after ourselves," Freese added.

Highlands Park have the best defence in the National First Division with just 13 goals conceded in 21 league matches. They are third on the log.

Mosimane is likely to hand his fringe players like Katlego Mashego and Lebo Mokoena some game time, with Hlompho Kekana and Leo Castro both suspended.
