Mzikayise Mashaba is set for a longer stay at Mamelodi Sundowns, his agent has confirmed.

The Brazilians have until the end of April to take up their two- year option on the defender-cum-midfielder's contract.

And the player's agent Tim Sukazi said yesterday that it appears there is a "90% chance" that the club will take up the option.

"Sundowns still have an option," said Sukazi, confirming that the original contract expires at the end of June.

"There is a 90% chance that Sundowns will exercise the option and then he could be hooked in for the next two years at Sundowns," he said.

Sukazi said based on his interactions with the player, Mashaba will be more than happy to stay.

"Every player wants to be a Sundowns player at the moment, isn't it? And what's more, he's part of the playing squad at the club. I'm sure he's quite happy," he added.

Sundowns signed Mashaba from Bidvest Wits in 2013. At the time, he signed a three-year deal with an option for two more years.

In terms of his contribution, the 27-year-old has started 47 games, made a further 14 substitute appearances and has scored four goals.

In recent games, Mashaba has filled in the void left by Bongani Zungu in the heart of midfield. Zungu is sidelined after fracturing his shin in a league clash against Maritzburg United at the end of January.

Sundowns' next match is a Nedbank Cup first round fixture away to Highlands Park on Sunday.
