Mulomowandau Mathoho was twice on the scoresheet as Kaizer Chiefs got their CAF Champions League campaign off to a flying start against Volcan Club de Moroni from the Comoros yesterday.

Aside from the Amakhosi defender's brace, Bernard Parker and substitute Sula Matovu also found the back of the net as Chiefs beat Volcan 4-0 in their first leg preliminary clash.

Striker Parker opened the scoring for Chiefs after just nine minutes with a shot from range. The forward was also involved in the second goal as his free-kick found Mathoho, whose header in the 39th minute gave Amakhosi a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The Bafana defender scored again early in the second stanza after Siphiwe Tshabalala's corner kick caused confusion in the box and 'Tower' had the easiest of tasks with a tap in.

Ugandan midfielder Sula Matovu, who replaced captain Tshabalala, scored late on to seal an easy victory for Chiefs.

Taking no chances against unknown Volcan, Chiefs coach Steve Komphela fielded a strong starting XI, with Willard Katsande and Lucky Baloyi in central midfield. Baloyi replaced Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who apparently picked up a minor knock prior to the match.

Komphela persisted with Kgotso Moleko at right-back ahead of Siboniso Gaxa, while Tsepo Masilela, who missed last week's win over Bidvest Wits due to suspension, returned to left-back. But Gaxa did get a run in the second half as he replaced Moleko.
