Malesela's blueprint

Chippa United coach Dan Malesela says local coaches, especially black coaches, should be brave and work hard to get to the top flight of South African football.

After impressive stints at United FC and Cape Town All Stars in the National First Division, Malesela has been given the opportunity to prove himself in the big league and he's done pretty well since stepping in for Roger Sikhakhane at Chippa United late last year.

"I hope the other guys are brave enough to take that step to the PSL.

"There are those who I believe have the potential to coach in the PSL. I think there is a lot of fear from our guys, which is one of the killers for coaches. A lot of people are maybe scared that they will come to the PSL and get fired."

Chippa were poor in their 3-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, but that performance is one of the very few Malesela would want to forget.

Chippa were in sixth place before last night's Absa Premiership matches, thanks to victories over Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows and Ajax Cape Town since he took over. It's these victories that might make PSL club bosses sit up and take note of the former defender's talent as a coach.

"Things have been good. So far I am coping and I am trying to get the team right. The best thing about the players I have is that they listen to coaching. That's a plus for us."
