Ordinarily, a three-week hiatus between matches would have Sammy Troughton tearing his hair out.

But the University of Pretoria coach says he has been pleased this time to have a longer opportunity to prepare for their cup tie against Orlando Pirates on October 16.

Troughton's team have been without a match since September 27, when they lost to Bloemfontein Celtic, and will have gone 19 days without any competitive action before they play Pirates at Orlando Stadium in the first round of the Telkom Knockout.

"Most coaches like to have a bit of consistency but usually we are playing three matches in a week and then nothing for two weeks thereafter. It can get frustrating," Troughton said.

"But this time I've been grateful for the time to prepare for the Pirates match. We've been struggling, so the chance to work on things before taking on Pirates has been great."

It is the first cup tie of the season for AmaTuks, who have a single victory from their opening six league matches but did get a morale boost with an away point

Troughton's side have been keeping up on match fitness with a series of friendlies, including a scrimmage with National First Division side Highlands Park yesterday and SuperSport United tomorrow.
