SA martial arts squad heads home with 71 medals

South African sportsmen and women have returned home with a record 71 medals from the martial arts world championships.

The Tand Soo Do contestants took 24 Gold‚ 27 Silver and 20 Bronze in Las Vegas‚ according to a press statement on Friday.

South Africa’s second victory was winning the bid to host the next World TSD champs in 2018.

“You may have seen all these guys in green taking all the medals — they will be our hosts at the 2018 World Championships which will be held in South Africa‚” said US Grand Master Charles Ferraro.

The South African squad of 33‚ led by coaches Grand Master Eddie Jacobsen and Master Gregory Hart‚ faced a field of 600 competitors from the United States‚ England‚ Scotland‚ Holland‚ Greece‚ Germany‚ Poland‚ Malaysia‚ Belgium‚ Denmark and Aruba.
