Cosmos weigh options over players transfers

Jomo Cosmos have yet to make any forays into the transfer market as they assess their options ahead of the new Premier Soccer League season.

The club confirmed to Sowetan yesterday that any talk of new arrivals was, for the moment, speculation.

Cosmos have been linked with a move for veteran forward Siyabonga Nomvethe, as well as two of the Mozambican players who excelled at the recent Cosafa Cup tournament, Luis Miquissone and Isaac Decarvalho.

The club have also invited Malawi international Mecium Mhone for trials and have expressed an interest in his compatriot Muhammad Sulumba.

But none of these deals have been completed yet, with a club source telling Sowetan they are still in discussion over the players.

"Nothing is confirmed so far, there have only been talks," the source said.

There is also no clarity on the future of star striker Charlton Mushumba, 22, who club owner Jomo Sono has conceded will be leaving the club in this transfer window.

The Zimbabwean hitman had trials in Switzerland in February but has also reportedly been on the radar of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mushumba scored 25 goals in 37 starts for Ezenkosi in the National First Division, with a scramble from top-flight clubs to secure his services.

But Sono has also said the club will take their time to work out the best deal for the club and the player so that he may take the next step in his career.

Cosmos make a return to the top-flight after winning the PSL's promotion-relegation play-offs at the end of last season.

They will open their campaign away at Maritzburg United in the opening round of league fixtures.
