PSL transfer market picking up

The pace of the South African transfer market has begun to pick up with some major moves announced in the past week.

While Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have shown their hand already, Mamelodi Sundowns have been conspicuously quiet with their dealings, signing only Burundi international striker Fiston Abdul Razak.

Part of that reason is that coach Pitso Mosimane must assess the 11 or so players who returned from loan spells last season, as well as the rest of his bloated squad to see what his requirements will be.

Jomo Cosmos have also been quiet to date, having been linked with a number of names, including veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe, but have yet to officially unveil any players.

Lamontville Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United are the other clubs who have yet to confirm new signings, with the latter saying they are waiting for the appointment of their new coach first to discuss with him.

Ajax Cape Town have a squad of just 17 players with PSL experience and need to up that number, but have stated they will look internally first and will run their eye over eight players from the junior ranks to see who is ready to make the step up.

Free State Stars have lost some considerable talent both at the back and in the striking department with the moves of Daniel Cardoso and Camaldine Abraw to Kaizer Chiefs, but so far have unveiled just one new signing in Tanzanian forward Mrisho Ngasa.

Matthew Rusike became the latest player to exit Chiefs this week when he announced he was heading to an unnamed club in Portugal.

Platinum Stars have signed only Senegalese international goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul to compete with Kabelo Dambe and Kagiso Mlambo, while Polokwane City recently announced the arrivals of Punch Masenamela from Dikwena, Randy Ngobe (Witbank Spurs) and Nazier Jacobs (Milano United).
