The international police agency‚ Interpol‚ has issued six “red notices”‚ which it describes as “international wanted persons alerts”‚ for‚ among others‚ former Caribbean football boss Jack Warner‚ who is at the centre of allegations that South Africa bribed its way to hosting the 2010 World Cup.

In a statement‚ Interpol said the notices had been issued “for charges including racketeering conspiracy and corruption”.

This had been done “at the request of US authorities”.

The US Attorney General‚ Loretta Lynch‚ is spearheading a massive corruption case against world governing body Fifa.

It named Warner‚ Nicolas Leoz of Paraguay‚ Alejandro Burzaco‚ Hugo Jinkis and Bariano Jinkis of Argentina‚ and Jose Marguilies of Brazil as the other five placed on red notice.

The statement said: “Red notices are one of the ways in which Interpol informs its member countries that an arrest warrant has been issued for an individual by a judicial authority and seeks the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action”.
