Furman hoping to move up

Bafana Bafana captain Dean Furman has set his eyes on a move to the English Championship as he assesses his options for next season.

Furman decided not to renew his contract at third-tier Doncaster Rovers at the end of the last campaign, hoping to move up at least one division.

While he admitted that a move to the English Premier League may be a pipe dream, he hinted that the Championship is his most likely destination.

Rovers coach Paul Dickov let slip that there had been plenty of interest in the services of Furman from both England and abroad when he was at the club.

"It's been quite an eventful couple of years. I was lucky enough to be involved in the title-winning game, which was one of the most incredible moments in football that I've been involved in," Furman said.

"Now I'm looking to continue my progress and I believe now is the right time to move on. I'd love to get back into the Championship and am looking forward to a new challenge."

Although he has set no time frame for his next move, Furman will want it to be tied up quickly so that he can get in a good pre-season at his next club, wherever that may be.

Furman has been linked with a move to the PSL before, where the top-paying teams could afford to match Championship wages, but has previously stated his desire to remain in Europe.
