Wana double helps Birds to fly over Leopards

Too bad it took getting to the play-offs for Moroka Swallows to show they are capable of producing the goods. This was an encounter that's not too difficult to describe as easy on the eye, as the Dube Birds frustrated Black Leopards by beating them 2-0 to collect maximum points here last night.

Swallows, under different coaches this season, including Craig Rosslee, the man in charge at the moment, have failed to show the same fight that was on display in what has become a fight for survival.

The only explanation as to why they hadn't bagged more than one goal going into the half-time break was simply because they just never got used to scoring throughout a campaign in which they finished 16th on the Absa Premier League table.

Although they are still to play three more matches in the battle to retain their PSL status - one more against Leopards (away) and two against Jomo Cosmos - Swallows' players seem eager to grab the lifeline that's come their way via the backdoor that is the play-offs.

They broke the deadlock after winger Vuyisile Wana got in behind the Leopards defence to connect with a low cross from Felix Obada in the 32nd minute.

Not once did Swallows park the bus. And they were rewarded when veteran Siyabonga Nomvethe helped set up Wana for his second of the night, which completely deflated Leopards.
