AmaZulu cling to hope despite huge blow

Amazulu's streak has been well and truly snapped after Saturday's 3-1 loss to SuperSport United, but coach Steve Barker still thinks survival is eminently possible.

It looks easy, in theory, as they have to win their last two games against University of Pretoria and Maritzburg United, but it becomes a different issue from a practicality perspective.

"There's no way one should not believe that survival is an option. Should the teams above us lose, we will be back in 15th. Obviously, there are six points to play for and I hoped from the last three games that two wins and a draw would give us a chance but we still have a chance with a week left of the league," Barker said.

Motivating a side that has not got past 15th spot for the best part of the season has not been easy and the mental strain was visible on the players as they trudged off after a disappointing performance.

While SuperSport gained revenge for the 5-2 hammering that sparked AmaZulu's revival, they came with a game plan that they executed well.

Barker feels they have the strength of seeing out their last two fixtures against the University of Pretoria (on Wednesday) and Maritzburg United (Saturday).
