National First Division leaders Lamontville Golden Arrows edged closer to automatic promotion after a gallant performance against KwaZulu-Natal rivals Thanda Royal Zulu at Umhlathuze Sports Complex yesterday.

Arrows came from behind twice against Roger Sikhakhane's determined Thanda side to win 3-2.

The leaders, who are on 56 points after 28 matches, now need just one point to make a quick return to the Absa Premiership after one season in the NFD.

Arrows face playoff hopefuls Cape Town All Stars at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, itching to seal promotion to the top-flight.

The sides went into the break locked at 2-2 after Mabhuti Khenyeza and Nkanyiso Cele forced Arrows back into the game twice with their goals. Zukile Mkhize scored the winner in the second half for Arrows, who had to come back twice in their previous match as well against Royal Eagles before winning 4-2.

Second-placed Jomo Cosmos kept their slim hopes of automatic promotion alive with an emphatic 5-0 victory over wealthy NFD side Royal Eagles at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Ezenkosi will take on Thanda in another Sunday encounter, but should probably start preparing themselves for the playoffs, with Arrows not looking like a side that will slip up. Cosmos are six points behind Arrows.

SUNDAY
