A heroic comeback by Orlando Pirates saw them find two late goals to draw 2-2 with CF Mounana of Gabon in the CAF Confederation Cup yesterday.

Pirates now stand a great chance of making the next round after they stunned Mounana in Libreville yesterday to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat.

Late goals from substitutes Lehlohonolo Majoro and Thabo Rakhale ensured Pirates returned unbeaten with precious away goals, which will stand the Buccaneers in good stead ahead of the home leg on the weekend of May 1-3.

A scoreless or 1-1 draw would mean Pirates win the tie on away goals, but it might have been difficult for Eric Tinkler's side had they not shown guts after trailing by two goals.

Bucs' comeback was inspired by Tinkler's substitutions, after the Pirates coach had strangely opted to start with Thamsanqa Gabuza as a lone striker up front.

Tinkler replaced Gabuza and Thandani Ntshumayelo in the second half, and Pirates started to look more threatening, with Majoro finding their first goal after coming on in the 70th minute. The Bucs pressure finally told on Mounana as Rakhale equalised late in the game.

Meanwhile, giant-killers Royal Leopards from Swaziland claimed another victim when they defeated Congolese side AS Vita Club 1-0 this weekend in a last-16, first leg clash. The victory for the police team follows shock successes against SA's Bidvest Wits and Angolans Petro Atletico in previous qualifying rounds.

AS Vita coach Florent Ibenge came to Somhlolo Stadium in the breathtaking Ezulwini Valley outside the Swazi capital promising to "finish the job" within 90 minutes and render the return match academic.

But Leopards thought differently and a late first-half goal from Mthunzi Mkhonto gave the locals a third triumph in five CAF games.

Elsewhere, Nigeria striker Gbolahan Salami bagged a brace as Warri Wolves built an uncomfortable 2-1 lead over Congolese visitors FC MK Etancheite. - additional reporting by AFP
