Chippa send Birds to the foot of PSL log

Chippa United registered their first win of the year and eased their relegation worries when they beat troubled Moroka Swallows 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match here last night.

Edward Manqele's strike in the 26 minute ended the Chilli Boyz's 12-match win-less streak but more importantly, it gave his team valuable three points in their fight against relegation.

The defeat sent Swallows to the foot of the table, and they are now in serious danger of being axed after AmaZulu won elsewhere last night.

Manqele's goal came through a pass from Siyabulela Shai inside the danger box. The goal brought some spark into an otherwise dull encounter that saw few scoring chances from both sides.

The hosts took the game to the visitors as early as the 11th-minute.

Manqele's first strike went over the cross bar.

A minute later Swallows' Rudi Isaacs came close to scoring but he fluffed his effort. Things heated up in the second half as both teams displayed more fighting spirit for the three points. They created numerous chances but non hit the back of the net.
