De Sa keeps his faith in striker Morris

WEDNESDAY'S draw with Polokwane City showed both the best and worst of Ajax Cape Town striker Tashreeq Morris, but his coach Roger de Sa says it is all a learning curve for a player he expects to be a PSL star.

Morris scored Ajax's goal in the first half, rounding off a superb move that he had himself started, but then went on to miss a number of excellent chances.

De Sa believes the forward will become more clinical with time, though, and says there are few other players in the PSL who can get into the kinds of positions the 20-year-old takes up to score.

"He is a young boy and he scored a great goal," De Sa said. "One thing about Tassie [Morris] is that he gets into positions that nobody else does because of his speed and athleticism. As a coach you might think, 'If I played somebody else they might bury those chances', but it doesn't work like that because nobody else has the speed to get into those positions."

De Sa said they were working hard to improve him as a player and believes that effort will pay off when he becomes a top talent for club and country.

"He's somebody that we have to keep on working on and believing in, he's got all the qualities to become a fantastic striker. He's got great pace, he's good in the air, he's a very hard-working player."

Ajax now have a break until they meet Northern Cape fourth-tier side Mainstay United in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on February 22.
