Bafana defender robbed at gunpoint

Bafana Bafana and Bidvest Wits right-back Siyabonga Nhlapo was robbed at gunpoint in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon.

It is alleged that two men armed with 9mm firearms followed the defender from the bank up to his house.

“I was held at gunpoint and luckily nothing was fired at me. They took my money (R50 000), cellphone and training bag,” Nhlapo told SABC radio.

“I have already opened the case with the police and I got a case number.”

The 23 year-old defender said he suspects the attack was an inside job from the bank.

“The robbers were bit rough. I think they thought I might try to retaliate. The two robbers were driving on a blue Audi. “

“Everything happened so fast that I couldn’t even have a chance to take down number plates,” he said.

Former national team striker Benni McCarthy was also robbed at gunpoint two months ago in Johannesburg after landing at OR Tambo International Airport.
