Pitso believes mental strength won the day in Wits drubbing

While the coaches offered two contrasting reactions following a Premier League goal fest between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, Downs mentor Pitso Mosimane perhaps came the closest to explaining what it was that turned around a possible stalemate into a late 4-2 victory for his side.

"I said it before that this game was never going to be about tactics, but rather the mental strength. For us that is where we won it," Mosimane said after they recorded their first win of the season. His counterpart Gavin Hunt disagreed, saying "there was only one team here today".

But in truth, both sides had their moments - Wits being denied by goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and the woodwork a few times, while Sundowns capitalised on a lapse in concentration to bury the opposition with not much time left on the clock.

Mosimane's now famous "we want our title back" chant at the end of last season sprung to mind during his post-match interviews. "What helped us is that we were always in the forefront because if we had to chase the game, I don't think we would have been able to come back. I told the boys that if they want to win the championship then they have to start winning games like these, against credible opponents like Wits. But to be honest, I didn't expect four goals," he said of the strikes from Cuthbert Malajila (two), Khama Billiat and Teko Modise.

For Wits, Daine Klate continued his great start for his new club by bagging a brace.
