When Kaizer Chiefs won the league last season, Tsepo Masilela was given very little praise for the team's extraordinary campaign.

Solid in defence and a joy to watch going forward, the left-back has also consistently been overlooked by Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba despite being one of the most consistent players in his position in the domestic league.

Masilela, 30, yesterday reminded Mashaba he had not retired from international football ahead of the coach's squad announcement today for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritania on September 5.

Orlando Pirates' Thabo Matlaba is out with an injury while his teammate Patrick Phungwayo has only just returned from a knock he sustained recently.

"I have not retired from the national team, I am still available," Masilela said yesterday. "But it's the coach's call. There is [Sibusiso] Khumalo from SuperSport [United]. [Marc] van Heerden from AmaZulu is also in the mix. "I have not been in the mix. Maybe I am number 10 in the line. Any decision the coach makes I will support." Former Bafana left-back David Nyathi said Masilela should be called up because of his experience and consistency.

"I have always enjoyed watching him and I don't see why he should not be given [an] opportunity to play. Last season I thought he was superb. He should have been the number one left-back. He can bring experience and help the youngsters around him."

Amakhosi, meanwhile, face Free State Stars in their second Absa Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Saturday (8.15pm) after a goalless draw with Chippa United.

"We would like to win all our home games. Our start has not been great. It has just been OK," Masilela said.
