PSL in the dark over the sale of Aces

The PSL yesterday said it was still in the dark about the purported sale of Mpumalanga Black Aces' status by relegated AmaZulu.

PSL chief executive Brandt de Villiers said the league knew nothing about the mooted deal between the two clubs.

"My phone has been ringing off the hook about that. But on our side as the league, we have heard nothing," De Villiers explained.

"If the purchase has to go through, there is a lot that still has to happen as per Article 30 of our constitution."

The league rules give the executive committee the ability to, within reason, turn down any potential sale of a club. AmaZulu and Aces would also require an approval letter from Safa before the sale can be finalised.

All these are the two clubs still need to jump to strike a deal fly in the face of reports about the sale as a done deal. Several reports have placed the amount of the sale at R82-million, but officials from the two clubs had gone to ground yesterday.

The only one who did answer his phone, Aces spokesman Gordon Masondo, said as far as he knew it was business as usual at Aces.

"I am not at liberty to talk about that but there is no deal between the clubs. As I am talking to you now we are in camp in Mbombela," Masondo said.

"You can come and check because the coach and the team are here. If the team was sold, we would not be continuing with our camp."

None of the Aces board members returned calls and messages, and attempts to draw comments from the club's marketing manager Lunga Sokhela and general manager Peter O'Connor drew a blank.
