Banyana stroll past Gabon

Banyana Banyana cruised into the penultimate round of 2016 Rio Olympic qualifiers yesterday, beating Gabon 5-0 here to seal an emphatic 8-2 aggregate victory over their weak opponents.

It was a Sunday stroll for Banyana, who scored three first-half goals to put the matter beyond doubt.

Promising striker Jermaine Seoposenwe, scorer of a brace in the first leg in Libreville, bagged another two goals, her first one coming after just 10 minutes on the clock.

It was a touch of brilliance from the USA-based striker, who is raising her hand as Banyana's new goal-scoring machine as she held her nerve to beat Gabonese goalkeeper Valerie Mbeang in a one-on-one situation.

Banyana coach Vera Pauw stressed the importance of controlling the game. That's exactly what her players did, passing the ball around with Mpumelelo Nyandeni as the conductor in central midfield.

It was through some neat passing in midfield that Banyana scored their second after 25 minutes, as Amanda Dlamini's deflected shot curled into the top-left corner of the net.

It seemed as though the Banyana players were competing for a best-goal award because the third was another good goal.

This time it was Refiloe Jane who found the back of the net just before the half-hour mark.

It was game over and the second half had not even been played, but complacency did not creep in.

In the second half Banyana were so dominant that even goalkeeper Andile Dlamini kept coming off her line as if she wanted to join the attack.
