AjaxCape Town defender Abbubaker Mobara says he'll only leave the Urban Warriors for a club in Europe.

As usual, a number of Ajax players have attracted interest from PSL rivals after their impressive campaign, but Mobara intends on turning down offers should any local club come knocking on his door.

The central defender believes the Urban Warriors can challenge for honours next season if management resists selling stars to PSL rivals like they have in the past.

"I am only interested in going to Europe. I am not looking at Joburg teams. Europe is a fantastic place to learn and start your career . While I am in South Africa, I will play for Ajax. There are so many things to achieve for this team. We believe we can become stronger, especially if we keep this squad.

"This season the coach [Roger de Sa] really changed us. He is more than a coach. He is a friend and he does not have favourites. He is fair and I respect him for that."

Mobara had a fantastic season, but it ended in heartache when he missed the penalty that could have won Ajax the Nedbank Cup title in Port Elizabeth last weekend.

"My mother cried after I missed the penalty to win the game. For me to hear that my mother cried hurts me. Since I started playing football my mother has never missed a game. We really wanted to win the cup. But it was a good experience, even though we lost."

The 21-year-old joined Ajax when he was 10, the same time as the club's top scorer this season, Tashreeq Morris.

Mobara was a striker when he joined the Urban Warriors, but over the years he has been moved all over the pitch. Former Ajax coach Muhsin Ertugral played Mobara as an attacking midfielder before current boss Roger de Sa moved him into a central defensive position alongside Bafana player Rivaldo Coetzee.

Mobara is the kind of player many coaches would love to have in their team, to call on to fill any position.
