Another Kiwi heads to SuperSport

The success of Kiwi import Jeremy Brockie for SuperSport United has seen the Tshwane-based club head back across the waters for a second New Zealand international - defender Michel Boxall.

The centre back has been signed for next season, club officials said yesterday, and will join in time for pre- season at the end of June.

He will fill a hole in the defensive ranks that SuperSport coach Gordon Igesund has been looking to plug for several months now, even though both Clayton Daniels and Mor Diouf have had a good season.

SuperSport picked up the 26-year-old on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract at Wellington Phoenix who, although based in New Zealand, compete in Australia's A-League.

Like Brockie, Boxall has also played in Major League Soccer in North America. He had a one-season stint with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Boxal, who has 12 caps for his country, captained New Zealand in their last international outing against South Korea in March and was in the line-up when they played to a 0-0 draw with South Africa in Auckland last May, when Igesund was still South Africa's coach.

He has been playing at right back for the Phoenix but his preferred berth is in central defence.

Brockie signed for SuperSport in January and has scored seven goals, five in the league and two in the Nedbank Cup.
