Sangweni's the tonic for Tinkler

Orlando Pirates caretaker coach Eric Tinkler is pleased to have veteran defender Siyabonga Sangweni back in the team for tomorrow's Absa Premiership clash against University of Pretoria at Orlando Stadium (8pm).

Pirates conceded five goals in two league matches in Sangweni's absence, a frustrating period for Tinkler who called for more discipline in defence after Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits ran rings around his players.

The 33-year-old defender, who was out nursing a knee injury, played 90 minutes in Pirates' CAF Confederation Cup clash with Gabonese club FC Mounana on Sunday and should start alongside Rooi Mahamutsa tomorrow. Goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo also looks set to start after missing the team's clash against Wits.

"I am concerned with the goals we've conceded and how we are conceding them. A lot of them boil down to a lack of discipline. We are working on it and hopefully we'll turn it around. Conceding goals from set-pieces was our problem and then we fixed it. Now we are conceding a lot from open play," Tinkler said.

"He [Sangweni] is experienced. He has played in the World Cup and has a lot of maturity. He is a role model and leader to the younger ones. That's why he is important for us. Thabo Matlaba and Kermit [Erasmus] should also be back."

Pirates got back from Gabon - where they drew 2-2 - early yesterday, and trained in the evening. Despite having little time to prepare for the AmaTuks clash, Tinkler is not complaining.

"The players are a little bit fatigued because of . the trip. But life goes on. We have another game coming up and we have to be ready.

"Everybody is happy with the result we got in Gabon, especially because we were two goals down. We could have actually won that game.

"The games come thick and fast. . We will assess the players but I do not see us making many changes."
