We are ready for Mazembe - Mosimane

South Africans will remember the distasteful scene in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo when the Buccaneers faced TP Mazembe in a CAF Champions League second-round tie two years ago.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has had to recall Orlando Pirates' horror trip to Lubumbashi as he prepares to take the Brazilians to the DRC to face four-time African club champions, Mazembe, next month.

Sundowns beat St Michel United from the Seychelles 3-0 on Saturday to win the tie 4-1 on aggregate to set up a tricky two-legged fixture against Mazembe.

Surprise Moriri scored a brace and another goal was netted by Katlego Mashego. Although Pirates had offered Mazembe five-star treatment in South Africa two weeks earlier, the team owned by Congolese businessman and politician Moise Katumbi did not return the favour in the return leg.

Then Bucs coach Roger de Sa compared the trip to a "horror movie", while SABC's travelling crew were arrested and had their equipment confiscated.

Mosimane said he was switched-on when it comes to the potential intimidation tactics.

"It's an important fixture for us, but we need to think beyond that. We should copy from Pirates [who reached the final that year] because we admire what they have done," Mosimane said.

"At the end of the day [despite the intimidation] Pirates went through irrespective. We need to be ready for anything and plan our trip properly. In fact, we've done our homework and already know where we are staying and when we are leaving, including how to get there. We have our spies on them."

This second-round clash, which will send the Brazilians to the play-offs for the group stages of the Champions League if they win, is likely to be played at the Stade TP Mazembe - a venue with a capacity of 18000 and an artificial pitch.

Mosimane's only worry is the difficulty to get his hands on video footage of Mazembe in action.
