Celtic show who's boss in city of Roses

Bloemfontein Celtic breezed past their lower division rivals and neighbours Roses United with a 3-0 victory yesterday to book their place in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.

The scoreline could have been a lot more embarrassing if Phunya Sele Sele did not sit back in the second half, with the two goals before the break, as well as another on the stroke of full time, enough to hand them the win.

Roses opened the scoring, but Tumelo Tlou put the ball in the wrong net in trying to clear a cross from Joel Mogorosi, which deflected off the left back's shin and into his own net in the third minute.

Mogorosi then grabbed a second for Celtic in the 21st minute, after he latched on to a long ball from goalkeeper Bongani Mpandle and lobbed the ball over the rushing Postnett Omony and in.

It was not a good day for the experienced Omony, who was surprisingly caught out of position on numerous occasions.

Mogorosi's second - and Celtic's third goal - was an impressive attempt from range and summed up his efforts on the day.

He could have had a hat-trick if another one of his attempts was not ruled offside.

The difference in quality was evident between the two sides even though Celtic coach Clinton Larsen had basically fielded his fringe players .
