Chiefs clash a 'dream come true' for rookies

PLAYING Kaizer Chiefs in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup at FNB Stadium tomorrow at 3pm is a dream come true for Edu Sports, though they also know it could turn into a nightmare.

The fourth division team had to progress past nine teams to reach the last-32 of South Africa's version of the FA Cup.

For Edu's mostly young team, it's a chance of a lifetime, but the club is also aware they meet Chiefs on the rebound.

Amakhosi lost their first league game of the season 2-0 against SuperSport United on Tuesday.

Edu coach Bricks Mudau knows what it is to meet Chiefs, having played for and against them - in the 1980s and 1990s.

"It's a dream come true to the players because some are fans, they are followers, they want to imitate them," Mudau said.

"I just hope the stage doesn't become too big. I'll try help them stay calm so they can give their best.

"I try to impart what I experienced playing at the highest level.

"It's going to be very tough. Chiefs drew their game against Bloem Celtic before losing to SuperSport. So they'll be coming guns blazing."

One of Edu's nine cup opponents were ABC Motsepe League (third division) Africa All Stars. Edu progressed past Stars after a disciplinary committee decision.

"As we were about to score the winning spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out against Stars, an opposition supporter ran onto the field and punched the referee," Mudau said.

"Supporters ran on to the pitch and it was unplayable, so it ended in the DC."
