TOMORROW night's Absa Premiership match against SuperSport United in Polokwane will be the clearest indication yet of a potential new deal for Itumeleng Khune at Kaizer Chiefs.

Khune made his return to the Chiefs' goal for the first time since August 30 in Saturday night's African Champions League first-round, first-leg tie against Township Rollers of Botswana at FNB Stadium - prompting renewed questions about his future. Baxter has previously said he would not "groom Khune for other teams" as the future of the 27-year-old Chiefs skipper remained unclear.

Khune's contract with Chiefs runs out in June and he has yet to sign a renewal.

But by putting Khune in the team on Saturday, Baxter sent a signal which suggested a new contract was being negotiated.

If Khune plays against Matsatsantsa tomorrow, it can be safely presumed a deal is imminent.

The injury suffered at the start of the season has effectively put paid to Khune's dreams of an overseas move, which he planned once his contract with Chiefs ran out.

The talented goalkeeper got himself a new British-based agent last year to help realise his ambition of an international breakthrough and would have targeted the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals as his showcase.

But his injury left him out of the Bafana Bafana side and even though he returned to training in December and might yet have made the selection for the Afcon finals in Equatorial Guinea, he was not played.

Moroka Swallows, who are 14th on the log, welcome third-placed Bidvest Wits to Dobsonville Stadium in another league match tomorrow.

Both matches kick off at 7.30pm.
