Any boxing promoter who wants to sign SA lightweight champion Xolisani Ndongeni must play open cards, says trainer Mzamo "Chief" Njekanye.
Njekanye has not only guided the 24-year-old boxer to victory for two SA titles - the junior- lightweight and the lightweight belts - but also masterminded Ndongeni's victory in the Premier Boxing League two weeks ago.
Ndongeni won R1-million for the feat. And as he won all three of his fights and finished top of the lightweight division, he earned himself an extra R200000.
Njekanye, who trains Ndongeni and other fighters inside a in classroom in Duncan Village, near East London, said the boxers had no legally binding contract with any promoter.
Njekanye explained that their contract with promoter Ayanda Matiti expired last year.
"We did not renew it," he said. "That is why I am inviting any promoter who wishes to work with us to play his cards openly. I must emphasise that it must be worth our while."
