De Sa was 'expecting' to be thrashed

TOUGH PLACE: Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa
TOUGH PLACE: Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa

ROGER de Sa admits there is little chance of Ajax Cape Town entering the transfer market next month as their slide down the Absa Premiership table continued at the weekend.

Ajax were thumped 4-0 by Orlando Pirates on Saturday - the second time in as many games they had shipped four goals, and now face a desperate AmaZulu side in their next game at home tomorrow .

With injury woes depleting an already thin squad, De Sa is worried and admitted they could be in for a tough second half of the season.

"It [the Pirates loss] was expected with the team we put out there and the difficulties we have been having now," De Sa said.

"We tried to hold out for 60 minutes and it was always going to be difficult. The cracks had to give in and it showed. They were a lot better than us . we got what we deserved."

De Sa suggested any business he does next month will be on the cheap.

"At Ajax you are a coach. You don't sign players. You deal with what you have and try improve them as much as you can. The transfer window is going to be difficult. We don't have the [Patrice] Motsepe and [Brian] Joffe cheque books to get those marquee players.

"We are doing well, the accounts are balanced. No other team can say that. Last few seasons we were facing relegation. [This season] it's better. We sold R10-million worth of players and bought none and we are still fourth on the log."

De Sa suggested a few younger players may get promoted to the first team next month.

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Black Aces played to a 2-2 draw against Free State Stars at Mbombela Stadium also on Saturday.
