Herschelle Gibbs arrested: Report

Former Proteas' cricket player Herschelle Gibbs has reportedly been arrested for drunken driving.

Western Cape police could not confirm on Monday that the man arrested was Gibbs, but said a 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night.

"The circumstances surrounding an accident which occurred yesterday [Sunday] at about 11.30pm are being investigated," spokesman Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said.

"A drunken driving case is under investigation. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested and later released, to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on 25 November 2015 on the charge registered against him."

In 2009, Gibbs was treated at a rehabilitation clinic for drug and alcohol abuse.

He had been arrested in March 2008, apparently after an incident in Main Road, Sea Point, in Cape Town, and had faced a charge of drunken driving, alternatively reckless or negligent driving. The charges were withdrawn.
