Tough bout for Tshesane

PAGE Tshesane's winning streak could come to a screeching halt on Wednesday night.

The resilient boxer from Middelburg in Mpumalanga has not lost a fight since 2011, but that might end when he fights hard-hitting Patrick Mukala at Emperors Palace.

Promoters Rodney Berman and Jeff Ellis will jointly stage their final boxing tournament of the year dubbed The Christmas Cracker.

Tshesane has been around since 2004 but with little success. He was stopped in round 11 by Chris van Heerden for both the SA and ABU welterweight belts in 2008 and three years later was demolished in eight rounds by Nkululeko Mhlongo for the vacant national junior-middleweight belt.

Tshesane bounced back to chalk up four straight wins before sharing spoils with Vhonani Netshidamboni in their drawn six-rounder on April 24.

Tshesane then outpointed Tebogo Malose over six rounds on September 29, and he returns to the Palace of Dreams on Wednesday in Kempton Park in a bout that could decide his career.

Tshesane is trained in Boksburg by Harold Volbrecht.

The boxer has 20 wins, including nine KOs, against four losses and three draws.

Mukala, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is trained in Randburg by Ashley Fourie.

Mukala has had only two fights in South Africa, both against Netshidamboni.

In their first clash in August, Mukala forced a stoppage after rocking Netshidamboni badly in the first round.

He caused quite a stir in their second fight two weekends ago when he knocked Netshidamboni senseless in the first round.

There was silence in the hall as the crowd watched on with concern, but Netshidamboni regained consciousness after being attended by Dr Solly Skosana.

The Congolese said he had also knocked out nine other opponents back home.

Tshesane's stable-mate, Gauteng middleweight champion Dowayne Combrink has threatened a hostile reception for East London foe Giovanni Bushby in their eight-rounder.

Combrink is trained by Volbrecht while Bushy from Willow Park is trained by Vuyani Bungu.

Action at this non-televised tournament will start at 7.30pm.
