IT WAS touch-and-go but Chippa United striker David Zulu has recovered from an ankle injury in time to face Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Stadium on Sunday.

Kickoff is at 8.15pm.

United's chances of maintaining their six-match unbeaten run had hinged on the forward recovering from the injury that kept him out of Bafana Bafana reckoning.

Opinions have been divided on whether the 28-year-old merited his inclusion in Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba's initial squad, but one thing that could not be doubted was his knack for scoring important goals. Zulu has been a pesky woodpecker for opposition defences this season - relentlessly trying to poke openings - and has four goals in 10 league matches.

The Chilli Boyz's interim coach, Roger Sikhakhane, tried his best to play down Zulu's influence but the fact that they have won three of the four games in which he scored makes him the fulcrum of the Port Elizabeth-based side's attack.

"David resumed training this week, he hasn't missed any of our sessions, and he's feeling fine. He will be ready to face Celtic," Sikhakhane said. "He is an experienced player and he can cope with the pressure of playing away at Celtic. He makes a tangible impact but it is not all about him."

It is no hoax, United are second on the Premiership log and trail leaders Kaizer Chiefs by 11 points. They have not lost a game since Sikhakhane took over from Kosta Papic, who packed his belongings for Polokwane City.

But they meet a team on a similarly impressive turnaround. Phunya SeleSele have not lost a league game since a 3-0 thrashing by SuperSport United in September. They administered their own 5-1 whipping to to City to add to the recent win against University of Pretoria.

l Milpark Stadium, BidVest Wits will be hoping to recover from a rotten three-match winless run in the league when they host Free State Stars tomorrow night (8.15pm).
