MARITZBURG United are targeting two wins from their two home games in the next week to solidify their grip on third place after nine games in the Absa Premiership.

MARITZBURG United are targeting two wins from their two home games in the next week to solidify their grip on third place after nine games in the Absa Premiership.

The Team of Choice have had their best start to a PSL season under Steve Komphela.

United come off a remarkable 4-1 away win against SuperSport United going into their game against second-last Pretoria University at Harry Gwala Stadium tomorrow night.

They follow that up by hosting Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday in a return to the compact Harry Gwala of former coach Ernst Middendorp.

Komphela has warned his players against complacency facing second-last Tuks.

"You know the state of mind of any professional athlete - there is a chance he becomes complacent or he thinks it's a done deal," the coach said.

"A big challenge is we're playing a team who are second-bottom.

"Tuks defend very well and can hurt you on the counterattack so we're trying to manage the psyche of the players to not be complacent."

Komphela said Maritzburg will be aiming for wins from their two home matches.

"We're saying if we could go to December with a minimum of 20 points - 25 would be a bonus - then in the second round if you could get 20 or 25 again, you could see yourselves in the top four or five bracket.

"But we're keeping focus on our objectives trying to win a certain amount of points in every five matches.

"We'll start by making sure the two matches at home we get the six points - then whatever points we get from the next three is a bonus."

The former Bafana Bafana assistant coach has earned an impressive four wins, three draws and two defeats from Maritzburg this season, raising hopes for the club of a first top-eight finish.
