Clapham saunter to Copa title

GAUTENG's Clapham High School were crowned champions of the 2014 Copa Coca-Cola under-15 football tournament, after defeating Western Cape's Robinvale Secondary School 4-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban, on Sunday.

Hosts Silindokuhle High School from Pinetown claimed third spot in the play-offs, posting a 3-2 victory over Free State's HTS Louis Botha High School.

However, the glory belonged to Clapham, as they captured the hearts of the fans by displaying skilful and impressive moves and scoring ability.

Clapham is an academy that belongs to Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns. They are coached by former Sundowns stars Isaac Shai and Godfrey Sapula.

The school secured a spot in the final by walloping HTS Louis Botha 5-1, securing Sunday's clash with Robinvale.

Notha Ngcobo bagged a brace before Modise Malebogo and Buhle Mfodololo scored to ensure that the Tshwane-based school wrapped up the three-day tournament in style.

Unsurprisingly, the winners also dominated the awards section, with Shai scooping the coach of the tournament, Khulekani Kubheka taking home the goalkeeper of the series and Ngcobo being awarded player of the tournament honours.

Former Bafana Bafana winger Helman Mkhalele and ex-Moroka Swallows strikers Calvin Petersen and Noel Cousins were the tournament's talent scouts.
