AJAX Cape Town's youngsters will present a genuine threat to Kaizer Chiefs' 12-match winning streak in Sunday's top-of- the-log encounter at Cape Town Stadium.

Chiefs will be aiming for eight league wins in a row, and 13 in all competitions, to extend a seven-point lead at the top of the standings.

Ajax have had their best start since finishing runners-up in the 2010-2011 PSL season to be in second place following four wins, two draws and a lone 1-0 defeat in their last match before the Fifa international break against Mpumalanga Black Aces at Mbombela Stadium.

Following a period where Ajax were floundering and rebuilding, a group of youngsters - many of whom were introduced last campaign - are benefiting from being a season older in the PSL. Coach Roger de Sa has a good blend of youthful energy and older heads.

Thabiso Nkoana, signed from SuperSport United at the start of the season, and Nathan Paulse, are experienced forwards who lead the line. Along with Tashreeq Morris, 20, the Ajax front-line have scored seven goals among them.

In central midfield, Granwald Scott, 26, has regained form playing next to 21-year-old captain and highly-rated prospect Travis Graham.

Left-winger Keagan Dolly, 21, and centre-back Rivaldo Coetzee, who turns 18 today, will have had their confidence boosted by their recent debuts for Bafana Bafana. Coetzee plays next to 20-year-old Abbubaker Mobara in central defence.

"We have to prepare and we know it is first versus second. "It is important we stay in touch with them in the standings because they are running away with it at the moment." De Sa said.

De Sa is aware that all title contenders will be watching the encounter keenly, eager to see if Ajax can rein-in Amakhosi's Gautrain. "Chiefs will have a good lead if results go their way. So we will be representing everyone in the league and hopefully we will prove they are not this runaway train everyone is talking about. Maybe the train will stop in Cape Town."
