Chippa set to set base in Free State

PREMIER Soccer League returnees Chippa United are likely to host some of their official matches in Parys, Free State, next season.

The Chilli Boyz want to register the 15000-seat Fezile Dabi Stadium with the league as their alternative ground.

They are also in talks with the Eastern Cape government to use Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium as their official home.

This comes after United's chairman Chippa Mpengesi announced last week that the club will no longer be based in Cape Town and would play 10 and five of their home games in Eastern Cape and Free State.

He said they had renewed talks with the Eastern Cape government to relocate to Port Elizabeth, citing lack of support from the Western Cape government.

Mpengesi could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press yesterday, but the club's new chief operations officer Thabiso "Shooz" Mekuto said: "The first option is to conclude talks with the Eastern Cape provincial government. Negotiations are at an advanced stage, the two parties will make an announcement once everything else has been concluded."
