Chippa close in on the title

CHIPPA United are almost certainly back in the Premier Soccer League after their closest challengers Black Leopards suffered a surprise setback on Saturday night and can now no longer catch them.

The Chilly Boyz need just one point from their next game at Witbank Spurs on Sunday to be assured of top place, automatic promotion and the National First Division trophy after second-placed Leopards lost 1-0 at home to United FC in an upset result.

It means Lidoda Duvha, with three games left, can only finish on a maximum of 53 points from their 30 games this season.

United have 54 points already with four games to go.

Mathematically, they could be overhauled by Baroka FC, Jomo Cosmos and Milano United on goal difference, but only if they lose all four of their remaining matches in heavy defeats.

Baroka, Cosmos and Milano must win all of their last four games to finish on 54 points.

The race for second and third in the NFD is still wide open with eight clubs still in with a chance of finishing in the promotion play-off places.

Teams that will finish second and third on the NFD log will be in next month's the play-offs with the side that will finish second-last in the Premier Soccer League - for a place in the top flight next season.
