LUSANDA Komanisi finds himself between a rock and a hard place.

If he easily dispatches Roli Gasca of the Philippines tonight, boxing pundits here will question Gasca's credentials.

If the current IBO featherweight champion goes the distance with Gasca, he could be criticised for failing to stop an average fighter who was easily outboxed by an ill-prepared Thabo Sonjica in August.

Sonjica failed to make the weight limit and was stripped of the IBO super bantamweight belt. But he still outclassed Gasca.

Tonight's fight will headline a bill that will be organised by new promoter Terries Ntuto, who has added Ludumo Lamati, a youngster from Mdantsane.

"All fighters are ready to do what comes naturally.

"We had a huge crowd at the weigh-in, so we hope people will come in much bigger numbers for the tournament," said Ntutu.

Action will begin at 7pm.

Meanwhile, newly crowned WBA international featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka will defend his title against a top-rated international opponent in Durban next year, promoter Andile Sidinile announced yesterday.

The bout is designed to keep Vetyeka occupied while he awaits news of a potential crack at WBA super champion Nicholas Walters.

"While Walters is waiting to decide his future, Vetyeka has got to be busy," said Sidinile, whose charge outpointed Mexican Arturo Santos Reyes over 12 rounds at Orient Theatre at the weekend.

Their clean-fought bout - the main attraction in Sijuta Promotions' bill - was officially the WBA featherweight title eliminator.

In the main supporting bout Siyabonga Siyo won the vacant WBA Pan-African junior flyweight belt against Siphamandla Baleni, while Raymond Tabugon, of the Philippines, ended the reign of Luzuko Siyo as the IBO intercontinental junior flyweight champion.

In another tournament organised by Xaba Boxing Promotions, also at Orient Theatre, Lwandile Sityatha retained his IBO bantamweight belt with a split points decision against Filipino Michael Dasmarinas.
