SIMPIWE Vetyeka could choose to wallow in self-pity at losing the WBA super featherweight title to Nonito Donaire under controversial circumstances and have that moment define him forever.

Or he could look at it as a temporary setback.

The talented boxer, who is trained by Vuyani Bungu and Lennox Mpulampula, has been thrown a lifeline by promoter Andile Sdinile to begin a bid to regain that world title.

Sdinile reassured the fight public yesterday that Vetyeka will face Mexican Arturo Rey Santos at East London's Orient Theatre on December 12.

"The winner will be rewarded with the No1 spot to challenge current WBA super featherweight champion Nicholas Walters, who won the title from Donaire with a sixth-round stoppage in California on October 18," said Sdinile.

Vetyeka is rated No4 by the WBA, while Santos - a former WBF junior- featherweight titlist - is No15. While Vetyeka has knocked out 16 of his 26 victims from 29 bouts, Santos has managed to stop only five of his 18 foes from 21 bouts.

"Both fighters are taking this fight very seriously as they are aware that defeat is not an option. Immediately after signing the contract in September, Arturo went straight into camp," said the promoter who trades under Sijuta Promotions.

Sdinile said his other charge, Luzuko Siyo, will put his IBO intercontinental junior flyweight title on the line against Raymond ''Tornado" Tabugon from the Philippines.

Tabugon is the WBC Asia flyweight champion.

Meanwhile, Siyo's cousin, Siyabonga Siyo and Siphamandla Baleni will meet for the vacant WBA Pan African junior flyweight belt, while Donovan Luff and Vusumzi Mlindwa will fight for the vacant Eastern Cape heavyweight title

Sdinile said his golden girl, Leighandre Jegels, will welcome Precious Mphahlele from Limpopo in a six-rounder in the women's flyweight class.

Sdinile also thanked the Buffalo Municipality and the Eastern Cape sports department for their support.
